Games of the week Jan 30-Feb 3

Friday 2-3

Major Upset..... #4 Santa Ana fell to Ocean View 1-0. Ocean View was able to revenge an earlier in the year loss to Santa Ana 7-0. I wish I could have seen this match because after having watch the previous meeting between the two teams I felt Santa Ana was a  team for CIF Championship considerations, but to lose to a team that they previously beat by seven, shows some weakness in the teams chemistry. The loss may not have any effect on their standing because the weekly polls closed on Thursday 2-2 leaving this loss for next weeks coaches  review.

#2 Claremont 7 vs Charter Oak 0. In this match Claremont was able to clear its bench and give many players opportunity on the pitch.  I must give credit to Charter Oak. Charter Oak is having a less than stellar year at 0-17. But throughout the match they did not get on one another. They stayed positive and tried to make a match of the game.

Thursday 2-2

#9 La Sierra 2 vs Arlington 1. Match is for control of 2nd place in the Inland Valley League. La Sierra 7-3-2  hands Arlington 4-3-5  its 3rd league loss and knocks them into a 3rd place tie with Rancho Verde 5-4-3  heading into the last week of league play. La Sierra ends the season with #1 rated Valley View and Rancho Verde. Makes for an interesting last week of league play.

2-1 Wednesday

#3 Poly Riverside 2 vs #6 ML King  0. Last match Poly beat King 4-1, Kings only loss of season. Both teams are currently 8-1-1. The loss knocks MLK into 2nd place.

#2 Claremont 2@ Chino Hills  1. In the teams first meeting of league Claremont won at home 2-1.  Chino Hills has been hard to beat at home for Claremont in the past. The win keeps Claremont undefeated in league play.

Damien 1 @ South Hills 0. Both teams are 4-2 in the Sierra League behind Claremont HS. Their fight is for 2nd place. The win gives Damien 2nd place all alone in the Sierra League and bumps South Hills into 3rd.

#4 Santa Ana 2 @ Orange 0. In the teams first meeting of league Santa Ana won the game handily.

# 5Valencia  @ Western.

1-31 Tuesday

Valley View #1- 3 vs Ramona - 0.  Valley View remains undefeated in league play.

Arlington 1 vs Rancho Verde 1. Both teams are currently tied for 2nd place in the Inland Valley League. Arlington won the first match........ The tie drops both team into a tie for 3rd behind 1st place Valley View and 2nd place  La Sierra.

Tribune Boys Soccer Rankings

Tribune Boys Soccer Rankings
1. Claremont (14-2-2) -- The defending CIF champions are 4-0 in the Sierra and already have defeated Damien and Chino Hills. They can take another big step with a win against South Hills on Wednesday at CDF at 5:30.
2. Mountain View (7-3-4) -- Vikings looked terrific in a 4-1 rout of El Monte, but the big game is Tuesday at home against South El Monte. Both teams are undefeated in league with 4-0 records.
3. South Hills (11-3-2) -- It was a big week for the Huskies, ending with a 2-1 win over Chino Hills to go 3-1 in the Sierra with a home game Wednesday against Claremont, undefeated in league and the area's No. 1
4. Damien (8-6-2) -- Spartans win twice last week and are very much in the league race with a 3-1 record. They're tied with South Hills and a game back of Claremont.
5. Diamond Ranch (8-3-1) - They meet rival Diamond Bar on Thursday for sole possession of first in the Hacienda League.
6. La Puente (7-4-4) -- Look who's leading the Montview with a 5-1-1 overall record. There are four teams with a shot at the league title, but the Warriors look like the best of the best so far.
7. South El Monte (6-2-1) -- Few thought the Eagles would contend for a league title with Arroyo, El Monte and defending champion Mountain View all playing so well. But the Eagles are 4-0 just like Mountain View, and can take over first with a win at Mountain View on Tuesday.
8. Pomona (8-2-1) -- The Red Devils are 6-0 in league and can all but close it out with a win over Baldwin Park on Tuesday. They're not the most disciplined defensively, but they find ways to win, like last week's 5-3 win over improved Nogales.
9. Sierra Vista (10-4-2) -- If the playoffs started today, the Dons wouldn't make it, sitting in fourth in the Montview. Only 4-3-1 in league, if the Dons don't get it going soon, they will be on the outside looking in. The two biggest stories of the season could be Baldwin Park and Sierra Vista missing the playoffs.
10. Baldwin Park (8-6-2) -- What's happening to the Braves? They lose to Covina and Wilson last week, and if they don't beat league undefeated Pomona on Tuesday, the Braves could fall to fourth in league. What an amazing fall from grace for the defending CIF champions.

Big matches this week

Tuesday

Arlington @ Valley View: (Tuesday)  Arlington has gone 4-0-1 since its last loss which was to Valley View. Though a win for Arlington will not put them into first it sure would help in their chances for the playoffs.

Wednesday

South Hill @ Claremont: (Wednesday)  South Hills just fell off the polls after holding in the polls for the past five weeks. This is a big game for them. A win would put them in a tie with Claremont for 1st place of the Sierra League.

Friday:
Claremont @ Damien.  Damien is tied with South Hills for second place in the Sierra League. By beating Claremont it would give them a tie for the Sierra League with three matches to go.

Valencia @ Kennedy. Wtih the two teams tied at the top of the Empire League this match sets up a showdown.  Both teams are currently 5-0-1 in league at the time of this post (1/24)
